The Canticles of Creatures

The Canticles of Creatures is an illustration project based around the dream like experiences that come under the effects of Salvia Divinorum, where existence loses any sense and reality vanishes in front of your eyes. Salvia Divinorum is a Mexican plant from the mint family (Lamiaceae) and is considered one of the strongest psychoactive substances in the world. The effect is so fast that the user is not aware of any sensation until they are enveloped in the overpowering depths of a short but profound trip. During the high the individual begins to realise that they have been staring at something incomprehensible yet as vivid and clear as the moment you are in right now.
In every Salvia Divinorum exploration Salvador has experienced he enters into the realms of an infinite lizard architecture. Here he hears the constant howling of untold numbers of creatures which creates unimaginable choirs and as these life forms wail they stare at him as he is the alien presence who has disturbed their world. Every piece is only a glimpse into the world that Salvador has seen and it is impossible to describe in words and images alone what lies in his mind.

Songs of salvia.
As you listen to the canticles
you start to feel imagination
itself observing you.

first heard as a shrilling sound,

Camouflage is misdirection but
not all misdirection is camouflage.

see and be seen… be seen and be eaten,
disappear or be different, and you might survive.

we cannot asume that universal understanding is usually achieved.
